Some files for you

I posted some things at my Tumblr.  You should Tumbl.   Yes.  Especially since Simblreen is soon.  :)

Tone files for creators.  :)

These are not skin tone sliders, just the dds and png files required for adding tones in Skininator.
If you want skin tones I have an older set here.***

What the heck is going on here:
After my wrist surgery I decided to do some graduated/graded washes. They’re a little messy, but that’s ok.  Then I took 5-20 pixel wide samples of each and squished them in 64 x 64 blocks.
Now I’m sharing the files with you, so you can play around with them.  You can edit, merge, fuss around with, attach to your skins, or anything you like.

Download (Mediafire)

Edit: Yes, you can to use these for environment files, though I don’t think they take 64x64 dds files(?!?!). I don’t know anything about custom lighting and water, so please don’t ask me for help;  I can’t help with that.

skin tone dds and png files

I shared the files on my Tumblr.  You've always been able to use these files, but now it's easier.

And here's a helpful question:

keeping busy

I finished a set of 18 fantasy skin tones.

I used Photoshop trickery and the noise gradient tool to make scattered colors, similar to the chaos alien I did before.

Would anyone like to test them/see them first/take pictures of them in use?

Here are their descriptions:
Scatter Genes - skintones to help prevent boring babies

Fruits - generally monochromatic-ish
  • 11 - peach skin, pale to bright orange, burnt orange, dark brown
  • 10 - palest heather, purples, midnight purple
  • 9 - pale peach, blue toned pinks, fuschia, wine
  • 8 - pale heather, light blue, mid blue, storm blue, dark navy
  • 7 - shades of turquoise, evening blue, near black blue-green
  • 6 - pale olive, lime, shades of olive, forest green, near black
  • 5 - pink, red, vibrant red, brick
  • 20 - pale sunny yellow, yellows, Tang
  • 3 - tan, orange, cherry red, brick
  • 28 - pale pink, magenta, vibrant red-violet
Opals - many different colors in one slider
  • 13 - peach, shades of lime, storm blue, lavender, violet, greens, near-black navy
  • 16 - magenta, pinks and purples, greyed pinks and purples, wines, dark lizard green
  • 17 - pale violet, sunset colors, terra cotta
  • 18 - pale sage, pale pinks, pale blues, pale teal, pinks, blinding hot pink
  • 15 - pale blue-pink, peaches, clay, grey-peach, grey, lizard green
Paints - two primary colors and a secondary color in the center
  • 25 - bright yellow, oranges, red, brick
  • 26 - bubble gum pink, pink, purples, blues
  • 27 - bright yellow, lime, bright greens, blue, violet
Any interest in playing with these?  Just drop a comment and I'll try to get the files to you.   Any pictures of them in use I will gleefully collect and post here after I get the files ready to officially release.   :)

Fantasy skin tone ramps

So....Peach E. Keen on GOS led me to Pixel Trade, which led to me snagging ludicrous amounts of alien sims.

Which led to me realizing that I should have a rainbow slider.

Which led me to realizing that MTS was down.

I could:
a) wait a couple days and download the needed sliders
b) make my own, redundant, sliders but have them within a couple hours

I made a slider with a pale rainbow and a brighter rainbow.  I prefer muted, slightly grey colors, so that is what I used. I really tried to make the bright colors a bit more diluted, but CAS really makes the colors pop, and possibly your retinas.   I take no responsibility for that, I blame CAS.

Both the lightest and the darkest look passably  human, so that could be a lot of fun to play with. :)

Then I pushed random buttons and made a noise based slider.   I think it could be fun for a generational project because the children would have a more random appearance, but would still usually be green.  So it's less random then using a rainbow slider?  More scattered?

Edit to add:  I like pushing random buttons, so I now have a set of Fawkes' style skin tones in progress.   So far I have a red, green, blue, orange, yellow-orange, violet, purple, and a various shades of violet-grey.   But I'll wait to finish them up because, really, 2 finished skin colors is enough for one day.   Plus, I can't imagine that there's a large number of people besides me who appreciate the Fawkes sliders, but finds them a little too monotone.

yellow- pale rainbow   teal - chaos alien

lime - chaos alien  plum-dark rainbow

These are just tones, and will show up under the default skin in your game.

I hope someone out there likes them.  I'm still at the Randomly-pushing-buttons stage of making CC, but sometimes that works out ok. :)

Terms of use:
If, and only if, credit is given, along with a link to my blog then you may:

-Include the .package files with your sim files for ease of sharing
-Use the .dds and .png files in your own skin projects
-Edit the tones for your own projects
-Use the tone files for almost anything as long as it is free

You may never:
-Upload these files or a project using these files to any donation/pay site, even if the project  is free
-Use these files for anything requiring donation/payment

Agree?

UPDATE 6/27
I have made the pale end of the rainbow slider a little more pastel and less grey.

Garden is wearing default replacement skin by Ephemera, blush by Evie, eyeshadow by LFB, eyes by Breyete, and a dress by Tomislaw.   The lipstick is on MTS, which is down, but I think it's by Elexis.

Feedback welcome

Here is my progress so far on my skintone ramps:

The original, Sepia:
Based on sepia photographs, with many different color samples arranged lightest to darkest.
Photobucket

Colorized
a more EA type of tone ramp with just different shades of the same color
based on colorized film, where the color turns out a little strange
also looks like spray tan
Photobucket

Dust
this one still vexes me
based on faded, dusty pictures
not exactly a fantasy color, but not exactly life-like, as old pictures don't have vibrant looking people in them
Photobucket

These are just skin tone ramps, like the Fawkes skintones, not new skins.

Please let me know what I should fix.

My model is Agnes Crumplebottom.  :D

 New comic on Sunday! \o/
I'm so excited and thankful that people are reading them.   Hello people!

Almost done...

Why oh why is this not Earl Grey?

First off...thank you to Mod the Sims and the skininator and easy to follow tutorials!

I know whenever you sit down to play the Sims you think 'Oh man, I wish my sims could look like pensive sepia photographs without having to push the button labeled 'sepia' in Photoshop.'   Fret not, I have been pouring ludicrous amounts of time into making a sepia tone ramp.

I am in love with making tone ramps now!   They require very little dexterity, which is good, because the cartilage in my wrist is still giving me grief.

I have gone through at least a dozen variations of this ramp...pulling out colors that were too green, too bright, too gray, too dark...

I'm pretty happy with this latest one - all I need to do is figure out how to add text to the little slider window that is both legible and helpful.

I wasn't originally going to share it - but hey I'm happy with it and I'm not going to be forcing anyone to use it, just making it available if someone would like to add it to their own skins.  So I guess...why not?

P.S.  Brightened hair is from Shyne
